Introducing The Vet’s Dog: My Journey from Surgeon to Advocate for Preventive Canine Care

— By Dr. Henri Bianucci, Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeon

Hi, I’m Dr. Henri Bianucci, a Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeon with a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Science and over 30 years of experience in veterinary medicine. My love for animals—especially dogs—has been a guiding force in my life, from my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian to the specialized surgical practice I built. Over time, my journey led me to a deeper interest in preventive care for dogs.

A Lifelong Passion

From a young age, I knew I wanted to work with animals. Becoming a veterinarian was my dream, but financial challenges initially led me down a different path. After earning a business degree, I returned to school and was accepted into the veterinary program at the University of Illinois.

I thrived in vet school, especially during my small animal surgery rotation. After graduating second in my class, I completed a surgical internship at the University of Missouri and a residency at Virginia Tech, where I also earned a Master’s in Veterinary Science. Through hard work and dedication, I became a Board-Certified Veterinary Surgeon and published research in the field.

Building a Successful Practice

I settled in Charleston, SC, where I co-founded a multispecialty referral practice. What began as a small venture evolved into a large, state-of-the-art facility. Our services grew to include surgery, oncology, cardiology, neurology, and more. I had the privilege of helping countless dogs through advanced surgical care.

A Broader Perspective: Exploring Eastern Botanicals

While I’ve always respected the Western scientific approach, I began exploring complementary therapies in hopes of supporting dogs’ overall health in new ways. One area that intrigued me was the use of Traditional Eastern Botanicals. I initially approached these ideas with skepticism, but my interest deepened as I learned more about the historical and scientific contexts behind their use.

Shifting Focus Toward Preventive Care

Inspired by these experiences, I became passionate about preventive wellness. My aim has always been to help dogs thrive—not just to recover. I believe a comprehensive approach that supports the immune system and encourages long-term wellness is key to enhancing quality of life.

Continuing the Journey

Today, my mission is to share what I’ve learned with other dog lovers. Preventive care is a powerful tool, and we have the opportunity to support our pets through informed, proactive choices. By combining traditional knowledge with scientific insight, we can help our dogs stay vibrant and resilient.

Let’s work together to give our pets the best chance at a long, healthy life.
